![]() Welcome to the home of the very worst of the meretricious poetasters! number 17 for 8-2-05: Lightning Round WASHINGTON (AP) - John Roberts pledged Tuesday to respect established rulings if confirmed to the Supreme Court, saying judges must recognize that their role is "not to solve society's problems." Citation I had to read it three times just to believe that it said what it says. It does. It goes on to say how he wishes to respect precedent and not change things that have already been decided by the courts. This is, of course, a calculated PR ploy to assuage fears that he will be the deciding vote to overturn Roe V. Wade. I really think that's a foregone conclusion now that two justices are about to be nominated by a conservative, and I said as much two years ago. What really scares me is that attitude, his attitude, the one that continues in abundance in the government. The attitude that no matter whether it is right or wrong, if there is a precedent set, it must not be abandoned or changed even if there are mitigating circumstances. For instance, what if it's found that Abortion leads to anal warts on kittens? Government corruption continues to run rampant. For instance, the Colorado Department of Homeland Security division that thinks it needs a tank for a chemical attack. Instead of, say, a shelter? Or instead of, say, GIVING THAT MONEY TO PLACES THAT WILL LIKELY BE ATTACKED INSTEAD OF FUCKING COLORADO? Citation This person profited in the millions on 9-11 for cooking books. She's not the first, she won't be the last, and she's got nothing on Halliburton. Citation Bush just sidestepped the senate and put Bolton in. He's obviously a boob, he's been shown to be a boob, but that's never stopped Bush before. He's a loyal boob, and that's all that matters to these boobs. Citation Citation And finally, New York officials give in to their frustration and take the easy path, racism, stating that we need to only search people who fit the description of the middle eastern stereotypical terrorist. Look, in a neighborhood where 90 percent of the people who steal cars are black, it might make sense to profile. Even though then it doesn't, because in our country you are innocent until proven guilty. In our country, on our soil, Middle Eastern terrorists make only 50% of the terrorist acts in the last 100 years. Ergo, logically, we must stop one in four Japanese, one in four white men, and one in two middle eastern people for Pearl Harbor, Oklahoma City, and the first and second World Trade Center attacks. I count the Pentagon as one with the second WTC attack, because they were the same group of people. Profiling in this manner does NOT make sense, it's racist, it's biased againt the Muslim religion, and it's shameful. Citation ANCILLARY We went to Iraq to _______________. Yes, I know, the answer changes daily. But let's use the one: We went to Iraq to stop murderers and rapists who propagated torture rooms for people they didn't like. Problem being, we then invaded, tortured the citizens we didn't like, and now we're allowing the new police to torture the people they don't like. Strike that reason, again. Citation |
