Future President Bailey’s First State of the Union Address

Please note:

Ladies and gentlemen, I will not make the mistake made by those who would formerly address the question of the state of the union, those who would invariably point to the financial and power situation of the United States and state boldly that the state of our union is strong.

I know, as a conscientious man, that many more factors go into the state of our union. Our moral character. Our strength of charity. Our power of giving. Our ability to get along with our fellow man and raise good, educated children.

And in this sense of the state, ladies and gentlemen, the state of our union is crumbling, and we must take drastic action now to prevent the fall of our union, and beyond it, perhaps the fall of civilization itself.

The common man cannot raise himself above his station, and yet our president, George Bush, a rich and prosperous man, continues to sign legislation benefiting only those among us who have more than they need, more than hundreds need. He then touts it as the reason for the strong economy, instead of the continued faith and hard toil of the working poor accepting decreasing wages, longer hours, no medicine, and fattening foods.

He uses his outlets of media to promote his agenda, including the corrupt and biased Fox News network run by conservative mogul Rupert Murdoch, a company so corrupt with bias that when it reports on said energy bill, which gives 25.7 BILLION dollars (in taxes they don’t have to pay), or 1/8 of the cost of the Iraq War, for NOTHING, to energy companies, just as an incentive IN CASE energy goes south, it does not mention any of the pork, despite a bill that was so corrupt that Tom DeLay managed 15 million dollars to just be GIVEN to his home town for the sake of obscure and unused drilling practices for oil.

A bill that does less than nothing to reduce our dependence on foreign sources of oil and cure our looming need for more.

Why do we need more? Because crude out just hit 64 dollars a barrel. The poor will be unable to afford to go to work.

We are holding men without due process or trial in what are essentially the modern PC version of a concentration camp. We deny them proper representation, and it may take the Supreme Court, which may or may not rectify this inequity, to fix it.

     Citation

A country where a man who we regard as the high executive of our largest western state can have his boots guarded by armed men, but where children cannot afford to eat.

     Citation

A nation where our most deadly enemy is allowed to produce Uranium, while our weakest, most beaten of enemies who have no nuclear capabilities whatsoever merit invasion, occupation, and colonization.

     Citation

And why do we allow this? Because though we could know these things, though we could fix them, instead we focus on the most shallow of things. Little missing white girls. This is from today.

     Citation

Enough! Ladies and gentlemen, we must rise and take our union back. The state of our finance is strong, the state of our priorities is abysmal.

Decide which you find the most important, then ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your fucking country.
