![]() Welcome to the home of the very worst of the meretricious poetasters! number 64 for 10-2-05: Darwinism vs. God-What-A-Load-of-Crapism Okay, here is a challenge to you. There is proof that Evolution is indeed a valid theory, there is pure hard proof that evolution is a valid proof positive answer that man was not created by dirt and a dude in the clouds. So--what proof do we have that Creationism is valid? Show me something, an article, a real scientific article from a university, or some scientist that proves creationism is one possible definitive answer. No bullshit. No referring to the bible or any religious text, and no answer like "You have to believe, you don't have to see it to believe it in your heart," or any other trite euphemism you can use to block my question. Show me proof and I'll re-consider my stance on Evolutionism. This is my e-mail address: terminal83@gmail.com Contact me. I'm an intelligent kind person and I'm willing to hear other view points, but I won't agree with you. Show me solid proof that rivals the immense proof we have that Evolution is the definitive answer, and I'll re-consider my stance. But until then, I shall call Creationism "God-what-a-load-of-crapism". Not exactly catchy, I know, but it's the best I could do. My other choices for the theory of Creationism were: "Fairy Tales" "Tall Tales" "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" "The Delusionist's Handbook" and "Load of Crap" But neither were as favored to me as the above. Why has the debate heated so much these days? It's basically a number of things, in my theory. We, as a country, are rapidly becoming a theocracy and it may be the last stand of the sensible versus the god-fearing, our country is run by militant Christians, and we are getting more and more proof everyday that life is not indeed planned or designed but that, everything is indeed random, and unpredictable. Katrina was proof of this. Katrina hit the South, a heavily god worshipping holier than thou area and it's to be assumed now that the good Christians were hit by the "wrath of god", there might be some bullshit to this religious theory. This was so random, so unexpected, many, many people died. Women, men, elderly people, and even small children, and we're coming to learn that, perhaps, there is no god, or heaven, or hell. So, now is when the Christians are deciding to buck up and really enforce their views lest we have a brain of our own, and decide, "Perhaps there's just nothing there." And so help me if you e-mail me lecturing on how "god wanted Katrina to happen", your ass is grass. I used to be religious; I was raised and nurtured in to religion. We had crucifixes around our house, prayed all the time, were forced to go to mass every single Sunday, went to Sunday school, and were forced in to communion. And in spite of the immense love we were given by our parents, we were raised by everyone in to god fearing people. People raised in religious families are raised in to the people conditioned to fear change (i.e. Christians). I was raised Catholic and raised with the notion constantly driven in to my head that if you don't have religion in your life, you can't possibly be a good person, nor can you ever experience happiness. Suffice it to say, I've been Atheist for five years and I've been getting by. When I became Atheist, a relative asked "You're atheist? What about murder and robbery?" Religious fanatics confuse being religious with being moral. We have Christian fanatics who will kill, priests who will molest and or rape a small boy without guilt, but I, an atheist, a person whose never shoplifted, killed an animal, or raised a hand at my parents, will grow up to kill and rob people. Remember, he said it right out in front of everyone, so not only is it an immense showing of his lack of open-mindedness, but it shows his complete disrespect in the fact that perhaps my parents raised me to be a moral human being. It's common for people, raised with the one-sided view of Religion as the be all and end all of life, to be horrified of stepping outside the realm and discover life for its own credibility. For me religion was more force of habit than actual spiritual belief. It was a scary road to travel on, but I learned something: I'm better off without religion. Sure, you might be saying "It might have worked for you, but I prefer religion, I prefer to pray, and worship", and that's great, but this is adult time and you're talking crazy. Lock yourself in your room and lie down slowly. Either way, I learned my life is more wholesome without it and it was really just an extra appendage I needed to cut off with a rusty saw. It was best. Though, not as graphic. What do I, an atheist, do on my time? I read, write, watch television, talk with my friends, sacrifice animals to my horned god (kidding), and I sleep. Normal life you say? Well, yes. Comparitavely normal. Two years ago, I helped save a man who was having a heart attack. Waited thirty minutes in the blistering cold for the ambulance to come. He survived, and they thanked me and I went on with my life. Does that sound like something an evil person would do? I don't talk about it, because I subscribe to Neal's thoughts that bragging about a good deed cheapens the intent behind it, but it happened. Before this debate on "g.w.a.l.o.c-ism" being taught in schools, I'm reminded that, long before this was suggested, kids were being taught to worship god in the system's subtle way. We had the "under god" in the pledge of allegiance, and teachers even discussed god in their own ways. A teacher even opened a forum for the class to discuss and mostly insult Jesse Ventura who deemed religion as a crutch on society. There were very few "discussions" on the comment, just many "He's going to hell", "What a Satanist bitch", "I'll pray for him", and much groans of discontent as the teacher sat on the desk watching it happen. Irresponsible? Exactly. So, again you'll ask: What's the harm in learning an alternative religion? Well, what's the harm in a little radiation? What's the harm in letting Ashlee Simpson sing on SNL? What's the harm in letting Jenny McCarthy make her own movie? You know the answer. Don't think you can live life without religion? Fine, but don't let it cloud your common sense. |
