Slight of Race
I have received flak for my position on Tookie Williams from friends, family, online folk, and etcetera. Most have a very good message at heart:
It's BAD to execute people as a form of revenge for the murder they committed.
I agree in some cases, disagree in others. Hitler should have been executed, had he survived, and a tard who accidentally backed over a grandma because he didn't know what a car was should not.
It's shades of gray, but the death penalty for our worst offenders should stand.
We should make the process of evidence and our trials failsafe. It is not. Many argue that because SOMETIMES an innocent person is killed, and because those killed are disproportionately minority, we need a moratorium. I disagree. I believe the error lies in the efficacy of the courts and the jury of our peers.
Regardless, I believe Tookie Williams, now dead, had it coming, if only because he started the damned gang that's running guns on my street and selling drugs on my street. He may have founded the crips to walk old ladies across the street, but I doubt it. And he may not have had the best witnesses for his murders, but he was still convicted, and that means, in the eyes of justice, he did it, and it's hard to argue that four murders for money does not mean you should die.
But the REAL issue, what REALLY bugs me, is the fact that people who oppose the death penalty (a fair position) instead of arguing for that position, are instead, as ever, trying to make a murderer a good person, and thus they should get clemency. No. We should ask for clemency that WE might be a better society. That's not the tack they take.
But even farther, and most insulting, is the way the news has swarmed all over this case, hoping for race riots, controversy, and trying to stir up Shiavo anger.

A FUCKING SEVEN POINT EARTHQUAKE (The kind that killed about 5,000 people last time one occurred in the region) JUST HAPPENED, AND WE'RE GIVING ATTENTION TO A DEAD MURDERER.
What the FUCK is up with that?
Say what you will about how bad the black man has it in America, there's nothing compared to the fact that five thousand potential deaths don't stack up to the debate surrounding one black American terrorist's death.
And that's what gangs are. Domestic terrorists. We're mourning a home-bred Osama, folks. Think about that, and think about the innocent people in Pakistan you won't even be seeing covered by the media because of this guy who are suffering right now.
